Louisville, KY — Charles Booker, candidate for the United States Senate, released the following statement on the Kentucky Senate’s failure to confirm Sadiqa Reynolds to the University of Louisville Board of Trustees:

“Sadiqa Reynolds is one of the most consequential leaders in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. She is a former judge, a champion for working families, a UofL alumna, and the woman who once gave me a chance when she led the Louisville Urban League. I know her character. Kentucky knows her record. The Republican supermajority in Frankfort knows exactly what they did.

They confirmed more than fifty appointees this session. They refused to even file a resolution for Sadiqa, and the reason is plain. She told the truth about the assault on diversity, equity, and inclusion in our schools, and she refused to let UofL bend the knee and overcomply with an extremist agenda coming out of Washington and Frankfort.

This is what political punishment looks like. Some politicians and some powerful people who protect a status quo rooted in structural racism and inequity do not want us to speak up and stand up for decency and integrity on college campuses. They do not want us to support young people as they find their strength, their voice, and their place. Kentuckians deserve leaders who don’t punish people for telling the truth and demanding equity, accountability, and opportunity for all of us. Sadiqa did her job with integrity. I’ll stand with her, and I’ll keep standing with every Kentuckian they try to silence next.”
